Chapter Ten
Now we come to the last chapter of the book. This chapter
tells all about the flow of sentence how it works from beginning to the end
means flow of thought from sentence to sentence.
Both grammar and thought are concerned with one goal i.e. transfer
of thought to the other people’s mind. This chapter is like an executive
summary. What I learn from this book is
Ø Two main parts of communication picture word and connector.
Ø Putting words in to the sentence means picture words have to
put in to the single sentence.
Ø Building understanding in the sentences we use.
Ø Linking sentences together which means giving proper gap
between the sentences
Ø Chose proper length to your sentence. It should not be too
long that create bore and reader cannot follow as fast as express.
Ø As possible you can simple the sentence.
Ø Avoid of Monotony which irritates them.
Ø Match up with our thought and reader thought means what
reader will understand from our communication should match what teller
expressing.
Ø Apply of clarity principle, symbolism which is easy to
remember, bring suspense in to it which attracts the reader.
If you consciously following the rule that have mentioned in
all the chapter, no doubt you can communicate with every one easily without
having a fear of grammar mistake.
This book really helps me a lot to talk and write my thought, so that people will never forget me!!!!!!! it actually teach me a new way of talk and write. This helps me a lot to correct myself while writing blog, paper, talking with friends. At last this book make me to Win FRIENDS & Influence PEOPLE
Chapter Nine
Now we add some more interesting twist in to our
communication which reader should enjoy. A dry communication usually makes them
bore. That is by adding clarity principle, symbolism, and suspense in to your
writing.
·
Clarity always
depend on the picture word, if your word had one meaning then it is clear.
·
Symbolism means
representation of a concept through symbols or underlying meaning of object or qualities
means a figure speaks. For example smile is a symbol of friendship.
The action of someone smiling at you may stand as a symbol
of the feeling of affection which that person has for you.
·
Suspense is
anxiety or a state of uncertainty or excitement about the resolution of
something. If we bring some suspense in our communication it will help the
listener to enjoy our communication. Suspense like announcing the winner to the
audience. This brings an unique experience to the reader.
Use of some unique device in to the communication, we can
win friends and influence the people. This way helps to express deeply our
emotion. It’s like a spice to our communication. Yet it all derive from the
picture word that we use, if foundation is strong our sentence will not be
wrong.
Chapter Eight
In the last chapter we get a Clearly idea of how to avoid
monotony. Our ultimate goal of communication is to convey our message clearly
to our reader. So it is important that your reader does not think you mean one
thing, when you really mean another.
After creating a flow of sentence convey it by interacting
from your mind to another. For immediate understanding of thought two main
characteristic is important i.e.
·
It should be
simple and error free
·
It should be
clear in its flow from one sentence to another. So that reader does not think
your telling one thing and they understand it in another way.
Usually picture words will have more than one meaning. It
creates misunderstanding to analyzing of one thought in different way by
reader.
Example:-
1) Ship sails tomorrow
2) The ship sails tomorrow
2) The ship sails tomorrow
In the first picture it conveys the image of action. Second
image convey image as a huge object.
What I learn new
For proper understanding of picture word, we have to keep
some points in mind,
·
A picture word is
not complete enough in itself to convey the full image means adding the extra
required words to avoid misrepresentation.
·
A picture word
can be interrupted in two ways means some word have two meaning thus it should
be avoided.
·
A picture word is
joined to rest of the sentence with the wrong connector and therefore takes on
the wrong meaning.
·
A picture word is
misplaced in the sentence and therefore gives the wrong image.
·
A condensing
connector does not make clear which picture word it refers to in the sentence
in front on it.
·
A condensing connector may be too far
separated from its prime image, and therefore not show clearly enough that it
refers back to that image.
Thus by eliminating the double meaning, restricting your key
image only by one meaning. You have built perfect clarity into your sentence.
By combining this technique with the simplification of sentence technique, no
doth that your reader will misunderstand your sentence.
Chapter Seven
This chapter tells about how to avoid monotony. Monotony
means replication of words. As we seen in the last chapter sentence should be
simple. But in this course we find monotony. If this structure continued too
long sentence it distract the reader’s attention and irritate them.
Simplicity must be balanced with two are less important and
communication goal. Monotony can avoid by Variety
and Emphasis.
What I learn new
Variety: - establish a balance between the sentences.
·
If you are words
are simple and images are visual, then your sentence can be longer.
·
If words are
difficult and your images abstract, them your sentence must be shorter.
Example: the most beautiful women I have ever seen is going to
become my wife.
Simplicity is always vital than variety. If you must choose
between the two, choose simplicity. But you can have both. You have variety
with in the limit of simplicity. You can have different sentence structure and
length.
Emphasis: - process of making certain thought stand out in your
sentence flow. Not all only the main thoughts. It can be done by three pointing
out, repetition, shorting your sentence.
Producing emphasis is simple by shorting, making your image
shorter and shorter with more and more stops between them. Emphasis allows s
you to shorten the sentence, avoid repetition.
These, Then are the words mainly used to avoid monotony.
When you combine the two sentences infinity number of different sentence are
choose. All of them are simple, immediately understood and yet they protect you
from creep monotony in your communication.
Chapter Six
Whenever you’re conveying the message avoid the confusion in
the mind of the readers which means think about your sentence and try to make
it more simple, understanding i.e. Cut
the most complicated thoughts and make it easy.
Always keep certain important point in mind
Always keep certain important point in mind
v Your reader understands every steps of your thought before you take the next.
v Before going to the next make sure that your reader understands the sentence in the way you’re thinking.
v Thoughts should be predictable, which means after listening to our thoughts readers will develop their own picture for our thoughts which makes them convenient to remember. So if they create it wrong our flow will break and we fail in conveying the message.
v Say it completely, do not think of the point that you tell at last. It creates confusion and whole process of telling our thoughts will fail.
The thing that I came to know new from this chapter is
v Simplicity in sentence: - connector should connect properly to our picture, fewest possible words with greatest number of connection.
v Our transition from one core idea to another has first been signaled in advance. Then accomplished, and then tied in front and back.
v We give signal to the reader that we are going to leave the second core idea.
v A simple producer produces simple sentence. Simple and short sentence give prominence to individual details
v Normal sentence structure: - squeeze the sentence, omit the unnecessary things.
v Explanation of normal sentence structure
v Replication of phases, dependent sentence structure, number order, time order, space order, summarization.
Sentence should be in flow, simple, understandable, clear
full because it is not subject matter that cause confusion in your reader mind
difficulty is caused by your misuse by connector, by overloading, by illogical order,
by leaving a necessary certainty.
Chapter Five
We should have knowledge of length of the sentence. Now we
have both picture word and connector. In this chapter it gives an idea of
thought flow in our sentence i.e. simplicity, clearness in the length of the
sentence.
The two important key for the flow of sentence are,
· No sentence is ever used alone, it always user other sentence with it as a flow of sentence.
· Flow sentence give much meaning from the front of it.
Some question will have a straight and simple answer like
yes, no, up, down etc. for such answer no need of framing an unnecessary
sentence.
The rules for proper length of the sentences are,
· Each our sentence must have enough words in it i.e. enough to understand.
· No matter after each sentence uses the connector between them. This gives a flow to your sentence.
For example:-
Rani: will you come with me to play football? because is so
good evening to play and get energized.
Rini: she says, yes.
Here we can see that Rini answered in a simple way for Rani’s question. Rani’s question contains a picture word, connector, proper understanding, and clear. No confusion will found as we see the example in chapter three.
Flow of sentence is very important, because your listener
will understand your story properly. They will have a proper understanding in
your words. Your message will be clearly understand by them.
Chapter Four
Now you have learned about the picture word, connecting
words and understanding of sentence. This chapter tells about connector likes
linking connector, condensing connector, non-word connector.
It is very important to give time to the listener to
understand i.e. a small gap. Sentence by sentence you build the story and complete
the story. Our sentences should no bore the listener, it should grab their attention.
Avoid the reparation because it irritates the reader. Sometimes
the punctuation we use will become as connector.
Chapter Three
While conveying our thoughts or message to the listener or
reader, we have to make them understand in the way we are thinking and telling
our words. The mind of the reader or listener cannot memorize all the words we
use. Thus they convert our sentences in to their understanding. When this take
place we have to keep in mind that they understand what is our message.
In
the above figure we can see that the one girl think of playing football and
express it with her friend. In her way of expressing she was not clear, i.e.
she think of playing games and said. But her friend thinks that she is wishing
to play any instrument.
When
framing a sentence don’t restrict your words. Write or talk fully what you are
going to tell clearly. Try to avoid the repeated words, because this creates
mess to the listener to listen same words again and again.
Thus have a proper or clear understanding in your words. Keep
a gap between your mind and the reader mind. Strategy being listener or reader
is analysis the situation of the teller or writer, remember all the image and
see if each one of them forms a complete
image in your own mind.
Chapter Two
Picture words help to frame the sentence but only picture words is not enough; we should take help of the connecting words to tell our thoughts to others. By building words into sentence, sentence into stories, we can share our feeling or thoughts with other. This is called as “communication”.
After thinking of the picture words the second step is framing it i.e. we should frame our ideas or thoughts or message what we are going to covey in a proper meaning full way so that the listener will understand what we are thinking or we felt or we are going to express.
In the above figure the girl expressing her dream. That she first think of the picture she want to be and then with the help of connecting word she express what she want to be.
These connecting words are used to connect the words or two sentences. Most of the connecting words are small and invisible. we usually notice them when they are linked up with the picture word. This shows an overview of the sentence.
Chapter one
First chapter is about the parts of grammar. There are eight
parts of speech which have its own definition, way of application, rules and
many more. This book gives a separate view of grammar i.e. Picture words and Connecting
words. This two parts if we know trolley it’s very easy to us to frame a proper
flow of sentence.
I have never thought of Picture words. When we are talking
we actually visualized the picture in our mind and talk.
This I realized now after reading this book. By using more picture
words such as action, feeling, judgment, person, size, shapes etc. it’s very
easy to frame a sentence. We should not think of grammar mistake. Once we
identify the picture kind, we can start to frame it by using connecting word,
which give proper sense to our sentence.
In my blog i have wrote about if i found 1000 rs on road. This i actually visualized the situation in my mind through picture, this help me a lot to write the topic.
This way of framing sentence is very easy, because what we
think in mind is usually comes in picture. If we concentrate on it we can
easily frame a sentence better than before what we learn in school.
